Megaupload and its founders, the proverbial “underdogs”, will not be bullied by the feds. The company has hired a legal legend that has defended Bill Clinton against sexual harassment charges and Enron against allegations of corporate fraud. Washington attorney Robert Bennett, said Friday that he will represent the company. Bennett said that “we intend to vigorously defend against these charges” but declined to comment on the case in detail.

Check out a video of Dotcom appearing in a New Zealand Court after the break.

Dotcom In Court

Kim Dotcom, the owner of Megaupload, represents one of the foremost Cinderella stories of the internet generation. The former hacker and current mega millionaire, who is no stranger to legal issues having been convicted of insider trading and embezzlement,  has made it his mission to turn every internet loophole into a pot of gold. After breaking into US calling card systems, Dotcom attempted to turn his “internet ingenuity” into a company for online data protection. Dotcom later sold the company after being put on probation for “handling stolen goods” (the stolen calling card numbers).

Hackers, internet freedom supporters, record labels and movie studios around the world will be holding their breath to see how this one turns out. As I said here, no matter the outcome, this is more than likely a win win situation for Dotcom’s “internet cred”. I’ll keep you posted.
